How should the VLT of Santos, off the customization of cars
Urbos3, the technology of the future.. that repects the past
Urbos 3 has been designed to reach further and consume less
CAF’s new tramcar generation utilizes the energy produced in braking by means of the ACR (Rapid Charge Accummulator) system. The ACR system provides for catenary-free running and higher operating ranges with the capacity to store within 30 seconds enough energy for 1500 meter running between stops.
By using these solutions, CAF has accomplished a 35% power use reduction, for tram running, which makes it perfect for urban transit.

Each City has unique characteristics that call for bespoke solutions
This considered, CAF offers a vehicle adjustable for all types of urban environments, different track gauges and the capacity to adapt unit consists based on passenger demand. This versatility is seconded by a commitment for maximum accessibility, exceeding all requirements in current regulations (RD 1544/2007).
The fl oor is low level all along for passenger access and egress at pavement level. In addition, each saloon is fi tted with four priority seat places and four places for wheelchairs, bicycles and pushchairs.
CAF’s commitment with the environment is uncompromised
Therefore, from the start of the Urbos 3 development energy saving has been a major design criterion. This decision results in the use of the most effi cient technology and equipment, and lighter and environmentally friendly materials, as well as the incorporation of train recycling requirements in the construction project.
The ACR System, in addition to a signifi cant reduction of power consumption, permits a reduction of the infrastructure visual impact and full architectural integration of the tram in the urban environment as catenaries are no longer necessary between stops. An innovative solution for the sustainable development of the cities.

Exceeds current regulation requirements
Urbos 3 provides the best possible tram vehicle passenger accessibility conditions. Urbos pays special attention to providing better access to persons with varying levels of disabilities.
The Urbos 3 bogie system results in a 100% low floor tram. The floor is 350 mm above the track along the entire train, including the door access area, preventing passengers from tripping up.
Passenger transfer from the platform to the train has been designed on the basis of the following two criteria:
:: Ensure safety and comfort for passengers walking through doors.
:: Accomplish transfer in the shortest time possible to minimize stop times.
Some measures adopted to this regard include:
:: Reduction of the gap between the platform and the tram.
:: The inclusion of handles inside trams on door ends to facilitate boarding and alighting for persons with reduced mobility.
:: Door closing pilot light and audio indication.
:: Clear signalling of entry and exit on the lower part of the door with a yellow strip to signal vehicle exit.
:: Colour identification of train access doors to clearly signal them.
As this is a modular LRV design, various seating arrangements can be combined for adaptation to the various capacity requirements. In this case, the driver can choose to enable PRM areas with the specific functionality of the nearest doors.
Urbos 3 meets Accessibility Royal Decree 1544/2007 of the 23rd of November, whilst meeting the criteria established in RVAR “Rail Vehicle Accessibility Regulations 1998 Guidance”.
