Strong signals for local rail companies

Over the last decade, railroad tracks have been disappearing from the Irondequoit neighborhood where I live. The line that used to run along the Genesse River has been torn up and turned into a scenic walking trail that stretches from the Seneca Park Zoo to the port in Charlotte, and then along the lake shore to Sea Breeze

The road crossings have disappeared, bridges that carried trains over St. Paul Blvd. are now     overgrown with weeds, and the Hojack Swing Bridge has stood idle for years, a testament to the railroads’ retreat from our community.
One might take these signs as evidence that the railroad industry was fading or even obsolete, but nothing could be further from the truth. Passenger rail travel is booming, prompting some members of Congress to push for investment in high speed rail. Freight rail traffic is soaring too, driven in large part by high gas prices.
Two local companies are poised to take advantage of this industry growth.
