Voith has placed an order with MAN to provide an additional 68 six-cylinder under-floor engines to be equipped in combination with its DiwaPacks powerpack on passenger trains being built by Brazilian railcar manufacturer Bom Sinal.
The order follows the delivery of 66 horizontal engines of type D2876 LUE605 for 22 two and three-car VLT Mobile 4 trains that are being used for local transport since 2010 in the Brazilian cities of Fortaleza and Recife.
Under the recent order, MAN expects to complete the delivery of the six-cylinder, 338kW D2876 engines by the end of 2014.

Bom Sinal's two and three-car rail cars will be used by a number of Brazilian operators and will be capable of accommodating a maximum of 358 and 562 passengers respectively.
Each of the two vehicles is equipped with two Voith DIWAPacks and in order to adapt it to rail applications; Voith has supplemented the DIWA 884.5 transmission by an integrated reversing gear.
MAN provides diesel engines with six and 12 cylinders for use in railcars, mainline and shunting locomotives, track-maintenance vehicles and also power supply.
