The 16-month contract, which is part of the East Coast Main Line (ECML) Capacity Relief Project, aims to upgrade the existing Doncaster - Peterborough line for use as the primary daytime route for freight traffic, freeing tracks for passenger trains on the ECML.
Under the deal, Invensys Rail will be responsible for design, testing, installation and commissioning for the re-signalling of 86 miles of track including 45 level crossings.
The company will also destroy and remove 24 signal boxes, including level crossing gate boxes and replace seven interlockings.
Commissioning will be carried out in five phases, with the first scheduled to start in August 2013 and the last planned for March 2014.

In November 2012, Network Rail awarded a £20m contract to Morgan Sindall to work on the North Doncaster Chord project, which is expected to eliminate a critical bottleneck from the ECML.
Construction on a new railway flyover at Shaftholme, part of the North Doncaster Chord, will be carried out by an alliance of Network Rail, Morgan Sindall and consulting engineer URS.
The North Doncaster Chord project involves the construction of a 3.2km twin-track railway line, partly on an embankment and partly on a new 246m viaduct.
Following completion in early 2014, the new flyover will divert freight traffic for passenger services and allow additional freight transport through rail.
