Ansaldo STS España, a subsidiary of Ansaldo STS, has won a €26.9m contract for the maintenance of traffic control, railway signalling and other related systems for the Madrid-Puigverd de Lleida high-speed line in Spain.
The 495km, double-track line connects the cities of Madrid and Barcelona to the French border.
Under the two-year contract, Ansaldo will be responsible for the maintenance of signalling systems, including European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) L1 and L2 and security systems running on the line.
The company will also oversee the maintenance of all connected systems, including the power supply system and safety detectors.

The contract includes an option to be extended for a further six months after the initial two-year period.
Trains can travel at a maximum speed of 350km/h on the Madrid-Puigverd de Lleida line, which features 13 interlocks, five radio block centres, four commercial stations and a 2x25kV ac traction system.
In Spain, Ansaldo secured the first European project in 2000 for the implementation of the first and second level of ERTMS for the Madrid-Lleida high-speed line and a major four-year maintenance contract in 2005.
