Alstom has won a €42m order from the municipality of Amsterdam, Netherlands, to supply five additional Metropolis trainsets.

The additional metro trains are an option from a €200m contract signed in February 2010 for 23 Metropolis trains, the first of which entered service on the East Line in 2012.

Alstom's Katowice plant in Poland will manufacture the new metro trains, which are scheduled to be delivered to Amsterdam during the second half of 2014.

The order is part of Amsterdam's public transport initiative to modernise its metro system.
Amsterdam's metro modernisation plan also includes the creation of a new North - South line and the modernisation of the existing network with a new CBTC signalling and control system.
