Under the deal, the 350km section of Poland's E65 line, which serves 35 stations, will be equipped with GSM-R mobile network infrastructure.
Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its GSM-R radio network equipment and base stations, base station controller, the transmission backbone, as well as dispatchers and handheld terminals.
Nokia Siemens Networks will also install its NetAct maintenance system for railways, as well as integrate ETCS Level 2 signalling for the GSM-R turn-key project.
The project is part of a scheme to introduce European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) standards on the busy passenger and freight line, which is being carried out by a consortium comprising Nokia Siemens Networks, Thales Polska and Bombardier.
"The 350km section of Poland's E65 line, which serves 35 stations, will be equipped with GSM-R mobile network infrastructure."
Nokia Siemens Networks' GSM-R infrastructure will provide a communications backbone for the introduction of ERTMS.
PKP project director Andrzej Wolski said NSN's GSM-R communications will improve the safety of passengers travelling on the Warsaw-Gdynia high-speed route.
"The modernisation will also allow us to shorten travel time by increasing the speed of our modern trains, which will be able to run at up to 200km/h in selected sections," Wolski said.
The design, development and execution of the Level 2 European Train Control System (ETCS) signalling will be carried out by Thales Polska and Bombardier, while the entire GSM-R project, including network expansion and rollout, will be carried out by NSN.
Commercial operations of the GSM-R infrastructure are expected to start in the second quarter of 2015.
