Electric power systems and energy
CAF Power & Automation is a very experienced company when it comes to the design and manufacture of electrical traction equipment and energy storage systems for all type of rolling stock.
Our different working areas include:
- DC traction converters: 750V, 1,500V, DOUBLE 1,500VDC, 3,000VDC, DUAL 750 / 3,000VDC
- AC traction converters: 25kVAC traction converters
- Energy storage systems: FREEDRIVE (catenary-free running tramways) and EVODRIVE (energy efficiency)
Information and communications systems
CAF Power & Automation develops intelligent transport systems (ITSs), which are committed to the concept of sustainable mobility. This means increasing mobility on the basis of improving transport's efficiency and effectiveness, and providing safety and comfort to users; the successful meeting of this objective has helped to develop our own ICT-based ITSs.
Our different areas of knowledge include:
- Control systems: recording, detection and monitoring of any variable on a train
- Experience in buses: TCN, CAN, Ethernet and 485
- Monitoring and logging systems: wireless interface equipment, real-time monitoring and alarm management, record and data storage, content upgrades and record downloads scheduling, user profile management and register viewer

Embedded systems
CAF Power & Automation devises, designs, supplies and services critical electronic solutions (real-time and functional safety). We offer products, service (design, development and management of the entire lifecycle of the solution) and consulting in the following specialisation fields:
- Software: firmware, drivers, middleware, applications, human machine interfaces, communications connections and tools
- Hardware: among other electronic platforms, the BEGA (BITART Electronics for General Application) is worthy of mention
- Functional safety: lifecycle management methodology and different certified projects
- Testing and simulation systems: HW-SW test laboratory, testing tools, functionality and requirement verification, coverage of the high level code (up to Level A)
- Electronic system engineering: devising, design and analysis
