Being exercised as part of a contract involving the firm batch of 55 trains and an option for a further 40, the new double-deck high-speed trains are expected to be delivered between 2015 and 2019.
Out of the 40 options under the deal, SNCF had already ordered 30 trains in March 2012, while the latest order confirms the delivery of 10 additional trains worth €300m.
Complying with the European interoperability technical standards (TSI2, ERTMS3), the Euroduplex trains will have an overall capacity of 560 seats.
"The Euroduplex trains will have an overall capacity of 560 seats."
The trains will also be equipped with drive equipment that suits various power voltages operating in Europe, which would enable travelling across the continent's entire network.
Power cars for the new Euroduplex trains will be manufactured at Alstom's plant in Belfort, while end cars and bogies will be built at Reichshoffen and Le Creusot respectively.
Ornans facility will be responsible for the delivery of traction equipment for trains, while locomotive transformers will be supplied by Le Petit Quevilly, with the electrical systems provided by plants at Tarbes and Villeurbanne.
There are currently 21 Euroduplex trains operating on France and Germany's high-speed lines.
