The consortium was formed to build 32 electric and two diesel multiple-unit trains under a €200m order from two operators, FER and Sistemi Territoriali, which also includes options for an additional 20 FLIRTs and more Stadler GTW articulated railcars.
Under the order, FER is set to receive 12 five-car EMUs, while Sistemi Territoriali will receive four six-car EMUs, 16 four-car EMUs and two GTW DMUs.

The lightweight, energy-efficient aluminium trains will be capable of travelling at a top speed of 160km/h, and they can be operated in double traction to provide high levels of capacity at peak times.
The trains have been approved for operations on various routes in the Emilia Romagna region and over the next few weeks, they are expected to be approved by Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza delle Ferrovie (ANSF) for the entire RFI network.
As part of the consortium, Stadler provides engineering, production of power cars, traction equipment, driver's cabs and manufacturing of the trailer and drive bogies.
AnsaldoBreda is responsible for producing the intermediate cars, assembling the multiple-unit trains and commissioning them before final delivery from its Pistoia site in Italy.
