Russian Raiways (RZD) and French national rail operator SNCF, along with technical universities from both countries, have signed an agreement to set up an international centre for high-speed railand transport systems.
The High Speed Railway Engineering Department is expected to launch in September 2014.
Universities involved in the deal include the Moscow State University of Railway Engineering, France's National School of Bridges and Roads and the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers.
The agreement is set to develop and enhance high-speed transportation systems and components in France and the CIS countries.
The new centre will allow the parties to bring together their research and technology, encouraging cooperation between the Russian and French scientific and technical communities, as well as conducting research and training employees to work on high-speed rail.
"The High Speed Railway Engineering Department is expected to launch in September 2014."
SNCF president Guillaume Pepy said: "We are ready to share our experience and best practices in high-speed traffic with the Russian side."
Russian Railways president Vladimir Yakunin said that the deal will see the company's experience in operating trains at low temperaturesshared with SNCF.
"We have been studying the experience of French colleagues in high-speed communications for the last five years," Yakunin said.
"And today, we don't just want to copy SNCF's experience, but together create an even more sophisticated system of high-speed links because of the huge distances we have in Russia."
