Alstom has secured a €60m contract to deliver 14Coradia Lint regional trains to AKN Eisenbahn, a railway company operating commuter and freighttrains in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The new trains will be operated on a 131km network, serving 48 stations in northern Germany, linking the cities of Hamburg, Elmshorn, Neumünster and Norderstedt in the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

The production of the new trains will be carried out at Alstom's Salzgitter plant in Germany, and the vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2015.

Alstom's Coradia diesel multiple units (DMUs) will be powered by three engines and will be capable of running at a maximum speed of 120km/h.

Each of the 54m-long trains will be capable of accommodating 350 passengers and will feature intelligent traction and operation management that meets existing exhaust emission standards.

The new trains will also have spaces for wheelchairs and buggies, an intercom and a gap bridging between the train and the platform.

AKN said that the new Alstom Coradia Lint regional trains will replace its existing 40-year-old vehicles, which are too loud and do not offer enough passenger comfort.
