Lilee Systems and Alstom have jointly unveiled a new suite of interoperable positive train control (PTC) products for rail lines.
The companies are launching the new systems at the third annual PTC World Congress currently being held in Orlando, Florida, and the suite is being made immediately available to operators in the US and Canada.
The new system is intended to help US freight and passenger rail operators meet the federal deadline of installing PTC technology by 31 December 2015.
According to Alstom, the companies have leveraged their respective expertise to develop an interoperable train control (ITC) system to provide the rail industry a wayside interface unit (WIU) with systems management agent (SMA) functionality.
"The new system is intended to help US freight and passenger rail operators meet the federal deadline of installing PTC technology by 31 December 2015."
The joint PTC system is built on Alstom's microWIU and addresses two fundamental issues, safety and smart management of wayside signalling and train control equipment.
By combining microWIU with SMA, systems management service (SMS) and systems management gateway (SMG) capabilities, the PTC suite will help enhance and simplify management of railroads' ITC devices.
The joint solution will also enable rail system operators to monitor, configure, control, secure and update their train control equipment and assets using a fully-integrated communications network.
Lilee Systems CEO Jia-Ru Li said: "By combining [Alstom's] proven microWIU wayside interface unit with our WMS-2000 communications and asset management framework, we are reducing the complexity of our customers' freight and commuter rail PTC implementations."
