Polish rail operator PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe has awarded a contract worth €76m to a consortium of Thales and Trakce for the modernisation of the Warsaw Okecie - Radom railway line.
The scope of work will include upgrading the train management systems, including signalling and supervision, on the 100km Warsaw Okecie - Radom line.
Under the deal, the consortium will carry out the design and construction of systems including control centres, maintenance and diagnostic centres, interlocking systems and axle counters, telecommunications, passenger information systems and CCTV.
"The scope of work will include upgrading the train management systems, including signalling and supervision, on the 100km Warsaw Okecie - Radom line."
The upgrade is intended to improve safety, increase line capacity and allow trains to run at 160km/h, halving the line's current two-hour journey times.
Work under the project is scheduled to start in November 2013 and is expected to be completed by July 2016.
Thales country director in Poland Pawel Piotrowski said that the contract will strengthen company's position in the Polish railway market.
"This latest award follows another recent success in Poland, where Thales is part of the consortium chosen to modernise the 350km E65 line linking Warsaw and Gdynia," Piotrowski said.
