Bombardier Transportation has secured a contract from Spanish railway infrastructure manager Adif to provide its Interflo 200 mainline signalling system to the upgrade of the Mediterranean Corridor between Alicante and Barcelona.
Under the deal, Bombardier will install the equipment on the San Vicente - Tarragona section, which is part of a longer segment of the Mediterranean corridor currently being equipped by a consortium of Bombardier and other signalling equipment suppliers.
The company will complete the installation of two new EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking (CBI) systems, as well as the upgrade of five existing systems of the same type, by March 2015.
The total value of the contract is €61m, of which Bombardier will have a share of around €17m.
Upgrading the Mediterranean corridor will be carried out over three years and is part of Adif's infrastructure improvement plans to enhance links between Spanish ports and European freight corridors.

The project will include the adoption of a dual-gauge solution and three rails that allow the passage of trains with Spanish or international gauge.
Bombardier's Interflo 200 signalling equipment is used for busy mainline networks, where headways are reduced and higher safety levels are required.
The system can be complemented with a national automatic train protection (ATP) system and can later be upgraded to European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) operation.
The Interflo 200 system is currently in operation in Brazil, Russia and Thailand, as well as across Europe.
